CDIA 6,000 Car Daily Parking Deck
The CDIA Daily Parking Deck is a poured in place concrete deck. The parking areas are flat with vertical circulation of vehicle handled with helical ramps. To improve safety the concept was to make the parking deck as transparent as possible. All stairs and elevators are glass and the skin for the deck and helix are perforated stainless steel.
The elevators are Otis GEN2 with glass cab. This was the first application of a machine roomless elevator in North Carolina. The Otis elevator allowed a reduction in elevator tower height, reduced energy consumption and increased speed.
The curved stainless steel skin was designed to be reminiscent of a airplane with the precast concrete bases relating to the existing airport architecture.
The 6,000 car Daily Parking Deck was designed as two halves for construction phasing and to allow for a future monorail system to be added in the future.
