Military Projects
DOD projects have been my major focus over the last six years with Samaha and AECOM. These projects have included RFP creation, design/build projects, studies and traditional design/bid/build projects.
This is a partial list of DOD projects:
With HSMM/AECOM: LEED Platinum Community Emergency Service Center/Fire Station for Ft. Bragg NC, COF for Ft. Benning, Special Ops Training Facility for SOF Ft Bragg.
With Samaha:
Worked on creation of RFPs for projects– Air Ops Fire/Rescue Station and Control Tower and Communication Engineering Facility at Webster Field, Pax River NAS.
Design/Bid/Build for Lejeune Hall Pool United States Naval Academy.
Study for the renovation of the three indoor pools at the United States Naval Academy.
Design/Build for Child Development Center for Quantico Marine Base
This was one of my projects when I worked in Fairfax, VA. The project was to completely renovate Lejeune Hall Pool(the major pool at the Naval Academy in Annapolis Md). The project replaced the pools, the entire mechanical system, pool pump room, ceilings, finishes, scoreboards, pool deck and tile.
Study for NAVFAC Washington to determine the feasibility of creating a Zero Net Energy fitness facility for Joint Base Andrews. A comprehensive integrated design process in order to create a ZNE facility. The design was developed as if power was not available. The solution was to consolidate the plan to fit the program into simple volume. The building is oriented on a east/west access. A berm shields the north, west and east facades. The south face is glazed to bring in natural light.
Child Development Center for the MCB Quantico Military community, will provide instructional services for children between the ages of six weeks through six years. This new facility will accommodate 290 children within the age group classification of infant, pre-toddler, toddler, and preschool, including 40 caregivers, 10 administrators, and 3 support staff. Our collective design objective is to create a CDC that fits within the residential character of the site, reflects the MCB Quantico
This is a proposed control tower/fire station for Webster Field at Pax River Naval Air Station. The secure base primarily test drones. The control tower shares conference rooms on the first level to coordinate special projects. The location for the control tower is right at the entrance to Webster field so it becomes the a signature for the base. The location is also on the Severen River so we wanted it to appear as a light house from the water
The Savannah Corp. of Engineers received a grant to study the benefits of sustainable design. Ft. Bragg was building two fire stations on the base. The first one on Long Street is a LEED Silver project. The second building is a combination fire station, police office with holding cell and EMS office is to be certified platinum for a new residential area located too far from existing emergency services. Both projects would be monitored for energy usage, water consumption and quality of life.
The project was designed in a four day Charrett held near Ft. Bragg. Using BIM the project was programmed and designed in four days. The BIM model helped generate energy modeling, cost estimates, schematic design drawings, renderings and animations. The team started with the apparatus room and its function. Once sized, the apparatus room was located perpendicular to the road for easy access for the trucks. The other space were laid out an a east-west axis for energy efficiency.
The overall design and architecture for the Hunter Company Operations Facility project is to convey the visual characteristics associatedwith the "Southern Living Station of Choice Aesthetic". This theme complies with the Hunter AAF Installation Design Guidelines incorporating design elements from nearby building. The design intent is to continue to promote the image of Hunter as a Station of Choice military installation without overlooking its historical background.
The Training Facility is a two story, 18,048 sf able-bodied facility that will house the training functions of the JSOC Compound at Ft. Brag. The layout of the first floor of the facility will place the entry, mechanical room, electrical room and communication room on the South side of the building. The entry corridor will be positioned between the sole interior stair and the communications room, allowing contractors to access the stair and janitors closet without entering the warehouse space .
